Nicolas Cage | Nicolas Kim Coppola

Legendary actor Nicholas Cage was born on January 7, 1964. He is the nephew of Coppola, the director of Godfather. As a member of the Coppola family, he had a strong interest in acting and photography. Nicolas Cage was born Nicolas Kim Coppola. It was a conscious decision not to bring his family name with him, though.

The first reason is that he had an unpleasant year of living with his popular uncle, Francis Ford Coppola — as well as his uncle’s family — when he was in the ninth grade. He did not want to be associated with his famous uncle at all. Another reason is that he wanted to make it out on his own. He wanted the public to judge him and his work based solely on what he is able to do and not for his famous uncle. He credits the surname “Cage” from the Marvel character Luke Cage and from the artist John Cage.
